Refund and cancellation policy

Donations are generally not refundable. Genuine errors are put right.

Last updated: 26 September 2026.

The short version

A donation to Himalaya Water Service Tatha Vikas Avam Paryavaran Sanrakshan Samiti is a voluntary gift, not a purchase. There is no product to return and no service to cancel, so donations are generally not refundable.

We do make an exception for genuine mistakes, and we do not argue about them.

When we will refund

We will refund in full if:

  • you were charged more than once for the same donation;
  • the amount taken was not the amount you entered;
  • the payment was not authorised by you;
  • you made the donation in error and tell us promptly; or
  • a technical fault on our side or the gateway’s caused the payment.

Tell us within seven days of the donation. After that we will still look at what happened, but the money may already have been committed to work in the field, and a refund may no longer be possible.

What we cannot refund

  • A donation you have simply changed your mind about after the work it funded has begun.
  • A donation where Form 10BE has already been filed with the Income Tax Department in your name. At that point the deduction has been claimed on the strength of the gift, and reversing it is a matter for the Department rather than for us. See below.

There is nothing to cancel

We do not run subscriptions, recurring donations, standing instructions or memberships. Every donation is a single, one-off payment. Nothing continues after it, and there is no arrangement to cancel.

How to ask

Write to himwats.office@gmail.com with:

  • the receipt number from your receipt email, or the payment reference;
  • the date and amount; and
  • what went wrong.

We aim to reply within three working days.

What happens then

If we agree to refund, we instruct it through the same payment gateway, back to the same card, account or UPI ID the donation came from. We cannot send it anywhere else — that is a rule of the payment system, not our preference, and it is what stops a refund being diverted.

Once we instruct it, the money usually reaches you in five to seven working days, depending on your bank. The part after we instruct it is not in our hands.

Your receipt and 80G

If a donation is refunded, the receipt for it stops being valid and must not be used to claim a deduction. We will tell you so in writing when we make the refund.

If we have already filed Form 10BD for the year, we correct the filing so the Department’s record matches what you actually gave. The society holds approval under Clause (ii) of the second proviso to section 80G(5), URN AAAJH0221L25LK02.

Foreign contributions

The online route settles into the society’s domestic account and is not for foreign contributions, which under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act may only be received into the designated FCRA account. If a foreign contribution reaches the domestic account by mistake, tell us at once and we will return it — that is a legal requirement, not a discretion. See the terms and conditions.
